Common questions

How do I record a solo?

Play the music on your laptop, TV or stereo, hold the phone close to the speaker and tap the big red button. Tap it again to stop. The recording appears in the list under a new name. Tap it to open the practice screen.

How do I slow it down?

On the practice screen use the − and + buttons in the Speed card. The speed goes from 100 % down to 50 % in 5 % steps and the pitch stays the same. The first time you change it, a moment passes while the slowed version is prepared.

How do I repeat just one phrase?

Play, then tap Start where the phrase begins and End where it ends. It now repeats until you tap Clear. You can drag the two markers on the waveform, or nudge each one by 10 ms with the − and + buttons below. Without a phrase, the whole recording repeats.

What does the Mastering switch do?

A recording made with a phone in front of a speaker often sounds thin, too bright or hissy. Mastering evens out the tone, reduces the noise between notes and levels the volume. Switch it on and off to compare. Your original recording is never changed.

The recording is too quiet, too loud or distorted.

Move the phone a little closer to or further from the speaker, and lower the volume if the sound is distorted at the speaker itself. Keep the microphone (at the bottom of the phone) uncovered.

Nothing gets recorded. What do I check?

Make sure microphone access is on: Settings → SlowSolo → Microphone. While recording you should see the coloured spectrum moving under the button. If it stays flat, the microphone is not picking up any sound. Check that nothing covers it and that no other app is using the microphone.

How do I rename or delete a recording?

Swipe the recording to the left in the list to see Rename and Delete. You can also tap the name on the practice screen to rename it.

Does it keep playing when the screen is locked?

Yes. It keeps playing when the screen locks or when you switch to another app, and you can play and pause from the lock screen or your AirPods. Recording needs the app open on the screen.

Can I send the slowed-down audio to someone?

Yes. Tap the share button at the top right of the practice screen. The app sends the audio as you hear it: slowed down, and only the loop if you have set one.

Where are my recordings stored?

Only on your iPhone, inside the app. They are never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes them.

Can I import a song from my library?

No. The app works with what you record with the microphone. Please record only audio you have the right to use for your own practice.

Does it collect my data?

No, it collects no data at all. See the Privacy Policy for the details.
